Card Challenges

Many Thanks from Birds and Branches

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my little happy spot. Take a look around and hope you enjoy.

We would love to see what card creation you can bring to life. Please consider, taking a minute to post your card creation in our challenge gallery at CAS Colours & Sketches.

Today I have for you an inspiration card for our Color Challenge #373 at CAS Colours & Sketches this week. The colors for this challenge are Stampin’ Up! colors listed for reference only. Feel free to use whatever you have in your stash that closest resembles Pool Party, Crumb Cake and Pear Pizzazz. I would love to see you play along with us!

Lately, with all the new sets that coming from Stampin’ Up! I have found myself playing A LOT! I am now creating 2 or 3 cards from the same set of stamps and/or dies, it been so much fun! Sometimes they work out and sometimes they turn out to be far more complicated than intended.

This is a brand new set to be released in the new 2020-2021 Annual Catalog called Birds and Branches Bundle, it includes the Birds and Branches Stamp set and the Birds & More Dies, such a beautiful set. Both examples came together surprisingly easy, that is definitely not always the case. The first card is mostly stamping directly on the card base, the other has a few more layers and die cuts from the coordinating die set. I chose to go with some frosted epoxy droplets to represent the berries on the branches. For the branches on both cards, I used the die from the coordinating die set, cutting a branch in Crumb Cake and another in Pear Pizzazz. I cut the leaves from the Pear Pizzazz die cut and glued them to the Crumb Cake branch. Then I added depth to the leaves using the Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write Marker. To me, the size of the twigs making the nest, implies something bigger and heavier. Though what birds nest (aside from Eagles and Hawks) have monster nests? Clearly this bird is not that big…..I just felt the branch needed to appear heftier than the stamped branch image could offer.

I used the coordinating border die to add a bit of whimsy to the edge. Inside I attached a strip of Pear Pizzazz or Pool Party to allow the edge to stand out a bit more. I love how both cards turned out with this color combination. If I had to pick favorites, would go for the Pool Party version, however I think the Pear Pizzazz is the better primary accent color. Though the jury is still out…..what do you think?

Thanks again for stopping by and spending a bit of your time with me. I hope you enjoyed learning about how this card came together. Hopefully you were even inspired just a bit.
