This post is my answer to the Sketch Challenge that can be found at Global Design Project #GDP230. This sketch brought 2 thoughts to mind, I wound up creating them both, and will picture both, but I wound up going with the Tropical Chic Aloha card. Its been a rough week around here, my son broke a finger on his right hand (he is right handed and an avid basketball player), he will have surgery on the finger in the morning. If that wasn’t enough my sweet sweet 11 year old Dingo Boy (Great Dane mix) broke his shoulder, we discovered he has bone cancer. His leg will be amputated in the morning, a biopsy run on his shoulder and then we will know better what we are dealing with and come up with a plan for that treatments. Like I said CRAZY TOWN around here. You will see that reflected in my designs. One is bright and happy, the other is on the muted side.
Like I mentioned earlier, this card took on a couple of different personalities. I am showing you both, however, for the challenge I went for the brighter happier side. The first card is a basic gray card base with Terracotta Tile and I used the Botanical Prints Medley Stamp Set, coordinating dies and the Designer Series Paper. This is such a gorgeous set. The sequin embellishments are from the Woven Threads Sequin Assortment in the Terracotta Tile color, then topped with a gold Metallic Pearl. Inside is lined with piece of Whisper White then finished with a die cut from the included die set in the medley
The second, happier, card is from the Tropical Oasis Suite. Primarily using the Timeless Tropical Bundle which includes the Timeless Tropical Stamp set and the In the Tropics Dies. I am in love with this Hibiscus Flower. The flower is first stamped on a larger scrap piece of Whisper White in Saddle Brown Stazon Ink, rendered with Mango Melody Combo Stampin’ Blends, So Saffron Combo Stampin’ Blends and a touch of Calypso Coral Dark. The front panel is a wide strip of So Saffron Card stock, the coordinating die of the hibiscus flower is used to cut an opening through the So Saffron and Early Espresso mat, now there is an opening for the flower to show through. The So Saffron strip is run through the embossing machine with the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder. I just had to have some texture! It is matted with a piece of Early Espresso cut slightly wider. This mat is glued in place over the hibiscus flower, the completed unit is glued directly to a Whisper White Thick Cardstock card base. The sequin embellishments are from the Iridescent Sequin Assortment in The Calypso Coral color way. The sentiment on the card is cut from the aloha die found in the In the Tropic Die set. I cut 4 So Saffron and 1 from the Early Espresso, glued them all together for extra height. Inside is stamped another flower image from the Timeless Tropical Stamp set, I used a sponge dauber to apply a center of Calypso Coral, then another dauber to apply Mango Melody – I love how this turned out.
