This is my last whirl as the Guest Designer this month. I have enjoyed this opportunity and would like to send a very big Thank You to the CC&S Design Team for selecting me. This is a card created for the Sketch Challenge #349 at CAS Colours & Sketches. I took this sketch a bit on the literal side….I think. Big fun was had be me and my daughter making a slew of water color backgrounds, which is what I perceived the background as. We determined the background below to be the best of the bunch, and went with it.
The card base is Whisper White cut to 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 5-1/2″ for a top folding card. I cut down the dried water color background to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ then attached to the card base with tearing tape.
The color scheme came about from the original intent of creating a snowy scene. Somehow that thought was sidelined and the Christmas Gleaming ornaments took over. The background watercolor smoosh is created with Blushing Bride, Gorgeous Grape and Night of Navy Ink refills. We took turns “smooshing” our pieces of watercolor paper into the watered down colors. This background was voted the winner. I love how it comes off as billowing clouds, somewhat like the paint commercials. (I can’t recall if it is Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore, could be somebody else all together!).
The rectangle is cut with a Stitched Rectangle die, then “antiqued” by blending Gorgeous Grape Ink around the edges with a blending brush. The ornaments were stamped with the ornament images from the Christmas Gleaming Christmas Cling stamp set in Versamark Ink On Whisper White then gold heat embossed. Same for the sentiment “Merry Christmas”. The ornaments can’t just hover in space, so I punched an 1/8″ hole at the top of each ornament, looped gold twine through the hole, then attached the twine to the back of the mat, the ornaments are attached with liquid glue. The sentiment is attached with dimensionals, gotta get some dimension!
As always the inside is not to be ignored! Along the bottom stamped in Delicata Golden Glitz Metallic ink is a border stamp image also from the Christmas Gleaming Cling stamp set.
I always have the most fun creating/crafting with my daughter. She and I have very different tastes (11 year old Unicorn Princess and me well over 30 something) but we still have a good time.
