Today I have for you the CAS Colours & Sketches Sketch Challenge #521 created by Rachel our Design Team Member and this months Challenge Hostess. This is a super fun sketch, the squares are space markers and can be any shape that you would like. This sketch brought some many things to mind, some things that could apply to this challenge, some where this was a spring board and off I went with other ideas. If you choose to play along, I can’t wait to see what card creation you were inspired to make. Please do post your card to our Challenge #521 Gallery at CAS Colours & Sketches.

I was already thinking about Halloween and Fall themed cards, so this seemed like the sketch to help jump start the creating. Like I said, this sketch was definitely a spring board for me, my head went in so many different directions. Finally I landed on the “easiest” idea and actually love how it turned out. Hindsight being what it is….I should have raised everything up just a bit, the sentiment is a bit crowded. This is created with one stamp set (for the most part) and its coordinating dies – the Tricks or Treats Bundle. The Gray stripe in the back is stamped with Smokey Slate ink and is the brush mark stamp from Cheers to the Season Stamp Set. The haunted house is stamped in VersaMark embossing ink on Highland heather card stock and end embossed in Black, then die cut with the coordinating die. The background, as I already mentioned is Smokey Slate ink on the brush mark stamp from the Cheers to the Season. I stamped it several times, so I could smooth out the side to side edges. Then I heat embossed in black the cluster of bats from the stamp set along the gray stripe. Kind of eerie looking! I heat embossed in Silver another cluster of bats on the middle haunted house. The “Boo” sentiment is die cut from a scrap of Highland Heather cardstock using a die from the coordinating die set. The haunted houses really needed to pop off the card so they are attached with dimensionals, I was torn about the sentiment but finally went with gluing it directly to the card base. Inside of the card is never forgotten in my world…I just stamped the haunted house and bats in Smokey Slate. Strangely and coincidentally, the haunted house inside aligns with haunted house on the outside. I just thought that was really weird how it was completely unplanned, but yet, it happened.
