With this post I bring you a card created for a Theme Challenge: Happily Ever After #GDP211 at Global Design Project. I immediately thought of my wedding – 18 years ago – the color was lavender, the flowers were lilies and wisteria. We were married outside on a beautiful early spring day in March on a wisteria covered gazebo in the backyard of a local historic antebellum home! Enough wine and champagne for all, a chocolate fountain, dancing…. SCREEEEECH….do you remember me saying “in March”? By chance, are you a basketball fan? Are you, your husband, your wife, brother, sister, aunt, uncle basketball players or at least follow College Basketball? Does March Madness ring a bell? Well I live, breath and bleed blue….University of Kentucky. Yep, you may guess where I am going with this, the only day in our window that was available happened to fall right smack dab in the middle of March Madness. My husband, played basketball in college, my dad and his dad also played basketball in college, all of the groomsman and the best man are basketball enthusiasts….Guess what else was made available inside the beautiful historic antebellum home on our wedding day…. several TV’s broadcasting the games of March Madness! That’s right, I married a great guy, and a sport, all on the same day. Now my son plays basketball for his High School team, his heart is set on playing at Duke under Coach K (lots of factors come into play with his plan, including retirement). Yes my friends, Duke vs. this Kentucky girl, that is a whole different conversation, that comes very close to committing treason in the minds of most Kentucky Basketball fans! Lets just say the Kentucky and Duke rivalry is probably among some of the worst rivalries on the planet!
Enough about my wedding and basketball fanatics, lets move on to the purpose of this card and the Happily Ever After that it represents! I had a dream about this card design and it played out in so many different ways in the dream, but I adore how it actually come together.
This card begins with a half sheet of Whisper White Thick cardstock cut to 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″ to create a top folding card. The first layer is a piece of Silver foil cut to size (cut out the center portion, creating a frame 1/4″ – 1/2″, what ever you are comfortable with. Attache the frame to the card front and leave the center portion for another project! Waste not, want not). To the Silver Foil frame adhered with liquid glue is a piece of Purple Posy Card stock cut to size and dry embossed with the Country Floral 3D embossing folder.
I die cut a tag with a die from my stash, I silver heat embossed a dandelion image and sentiment “I made a wish and you came true” in silver. The edges of the tag are also silver heat embossed, to offer a bit more definition. The tag is then attached to the card front with dimensionals to give it a bit more prominence. For the final flourish, I colored a piece of Silver Metallic edged ribbon with the Dark Purple Posy Stampin’ Blends Marker. Allow the ink to dry well, the ribbon will be a bit more crispy. Tied a bow and attached it to the tag with a glue dot.
For this card my friends, believe it or not, I did not do a thing to the inside. I didn’t feel like there needed to be inside. The outside took care of everything this card was meant to address! No distractions, just a meaningful, sentimental, simplistic moment.
I hope you liked this card, I had some many “sugar plums” dancing around in my head as I was dreaming about this card, I wasn’t sure how all the parts and pieces were going to come together. I love how it finally came together in the end….I think it is a heck of a shot, maybe even a 3 point shot?!
