Freshly Made Sketches FMS388 – Going Nautical!

Hello everyone, thanks so much for stopping by. Today I have for you a card I created for Freshly Made Sketches Challenge FMS388. If you have a minute, pop on over to their website and take a look at what outstanding designs the designers have created for this challenge and so very many others.

Today my card is taking a nautical turn. Not my usual subject matter, but from time to time I do fancy a nautical theme. It could be because Summer is already down here in Alabama at full. The fun part of sketches is that they can be taken literally from what the sketch shows or they can be reinterpreted but still represent. Today I took the literal road more or less.

Once I decided I was feeling that water vibe, I reached for this soon to be released set from Stampin’ Up! called Sailing Home. I also used the coordinating dies called, Smooth Sailing. I had to go with the traditional nautical colors of Navy, Red, White and when appropriate through in some Crumb Cake and Bronze Stampin’ Blends.

For the card base, I chose to go with Whisper White Thick Card with a top fold (or I have just learned this is the “hot dog fold” – who knew!) For the center element I used a piece of Night of Navy card stock centered on a slightly larger Real Red background. On Whisper White card stock I stamped in Basic Gray the images from the Sailing Home Stamp set. I touched all 3 images with some color using the Stampin’ Blend Markers. Since the Lighthouse was the largest and more or less the focal point, it received more color. Now, I turned to the Big Shot, I ran the Night of Navy strip through with the Swirls & Curls TIEF, then cut the colored images out with their coordinating die. Finished with the Big Shot I reached for my Starburst Circle punch, cutting 3 circles from scrap Real Red card stock.

With all the parts and pieces gathered and finished, assembly begins. I attached the Night of Navy embossed strip to the center of the Real Red with liquid adhesive. Then attached that dynamic duo to the front of the card base with tear -n- tape. I took the 3 smaller colored images and attached each one to the center of a Real Red Starburst Circle. What is the 3rd image you may ask? Well, it is discreetly perched inside the card in the lower right corner, it makes a quiet appearance in one of the photos above – the compass. I attached 2 of the circles to the front of the card side by side. I then attached the Lighthouse with dimensionals on top of everything.

I love how this card turnout, I hope you enjoyed it as well. If you would like to see what other designers have created with this sketch, hop on over to Freshly Made Sketches When you get a minute, lots of great designs for your viewing pleasure over there.
