Being from Louisville, Kentucky, I have fond memories of one particular time of year. The Kentucky Derby. The first jewel of the Triple Crown with the second and third jewels being the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. Every year the Derby is at least, a week long city wide party. There is the steamboat race on the Ohio River in Downtown Louisville which is always the Belle of Louisville and typically the Delta Queen or The Natchez. There is a food tasting, chefs from across the country and of course locally show off their primary dish. The Chow Wagon which features the one and only Kentucky Burgoo, a stew basically and the Derby Parade. Then there was the most beautiful event of them all (aside from the gorgeous thoroughbreds and movie stars that come from far and wide to watch the fastest 2 minutes in sports), The Balloon Race. Again Balloonists from across the country race in the sky to win the purse at the other end. Obviously their trajectory is based on Wind speed and direction, however, typically they all flew right over our house early in the morning. It was beautiful to watch and a sight to see. All the colors drifting across the sky, all the puffs of heat and gas to raise the balloon even higher and of course we would wave at them and they would wave at us. My whole family would get up early, step outside and take it all in. This card is conjured from that memory, I hope you enjoy the card.

For this card, I thought simple would be the best, especially with all the colors involved. The card base is simple Whisper White Thick. For the front panel, I combined two stamp sets that were a must in my collection and are also a sneak peak of a couple of new products that will be introduced in the release of the new Stampin’ Up! 2019-2020 Annual Catalog. These sets are called A Good Man and Above the Clouds. On a Whisper White panel I first stamped the father and daughter image from A Good Man and then the small balloon images from the Above the Clouds set. I masked those images off and then sponged on the sky using a 2019-2021 New In-Color Seaspray Mist. In my opinion it is the perfect blue sky color without looking stormy. Then I sponged in the grassy area with Granny Apple Green.
I took off the masks and colored each image with the Stampin’ Blends Markers – Dark Poppy Parade, Light Night of Navy, Dark Granny Apple Green, Dark Pumpkin Pie and Dark Daffodil Delight.
On a scrap of Whisper White I stamped the sentiment which also came from the A Good Man Stamp set. I cut it out with a stitched oval die on the the big shot, went on to adhere it to the panel with dimensionals. I matted the finished panel on a sheet of Night of Navy cardstock and adhered that duo to the front of the Whisper White Thick Card base. I love how this card turned out, so happy I had these two stamp sets to bring this memory to life. Hope you enjoyed the happy stroll down memory lane with me.
