I got a little crazy here with a fun fold. I was inspired for this card while watching a Junk Journal idea on You Tube from Natasha at Treasure Books. She has lots of great ideas for junk journals and ephemera, here is the link to Natasha’s video that inspired this design for a card.

Lots of images to get you through the process, you can follow Natasha’s video as well. I will walk you through the process the best I can in words.

  • I started with a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock.
  • Score every 1/2″ for 3″ so you get (6) 1/2″ folds. Leave the last piece at the 1-1/4″ attached. Accordion fold the score lines so that there are 3 peaks facing up.
  • Now is the time to place your pieces in the folds of the 2 last peaks. Once you are satisfied the fold peaks are facing up and you are satisfied with your pieces and their arrangement, miter the top and bottom edges of the larger flap – start cutting from the outside edge about 1/4″ from the corner, cut at an angle down the side to the valley of the closest scored line. Glue the very first (top) 1/2″ flap to the second 1/2″ flap on the opposite end of the larger flap. Once dry miter the top and bottom edge of the combined flaps, again 1/4″ from the the corner, down to the very next score line at the end. The combined 1/2″ flap (on top) and the larger flap (on back) are where the card front and back will be attached. The flaps will now be inside the card structure and will be covered with a cardstock liner.
  • Flip over the card so the back side of the card is facing up. Place a bead of glue deep in the valley of the folds on back – avoid getting glue at the top (peaks) on the back of the card. Gluing the valleys together at their lowest point will prevent them from opening too much and creating an awkward card to open. The accordion fold will open just right. Now that the card bones have been established glue in your decorations of choice. Try to avoid using to much more bulk, this card is already pretty thick and anything else could prevent it from going through the mail.
  • Attach your interior liner panels, decorate those panels with paper strips, ribbon, things of minimal bulk.
  • Pull it all together, design your card front so it all ties together.

The butterflies are ephemera that I created in a mass watercolor, butterfly punching event. I created backgrounds on water color paper with Pigment sprinkles, you could also use ink re-fillers, dab ink pads on a surface that will not stain and will allow you to mix water with the colors, to create a water color wash with an aqua painter. Drag ink pads across water color paper then spray with water to re-activate the colors. Be sure to use colors that are side by side on the color wheel, not across from one another, or you will create a muddy concoction. Allow your creations to completely dry, the paper should not be cool to the touch (or just use a heat tool). The results will be different, if you like what you see now, a heat tool may be your best bet. Once the watercolor paper is completely dry, stamp the butterflies from the Butterfly Gala stamp set, or Butterflies of your choice with Stazon Jet Black ink. Once that ink is dry, use the Butterfly Duet Punch to punch out the butterflies. Now you will have large and small butterflies ready to use for any project at any time.

The Timeless Tulip Bundle, another set that I had a session where I stamped several tulip bloom and leaves images, then punched them all out with the Tulip Builder Punch. This card happens to use the Designer Series Paper that came out with the Sale-A-Bration coordinating items called Pleased as Punch 12″ x 12″ Designer Series paper. Unfortunately it is no longer available, this pack coordinated with the Tulip Builder Punch, the Heart Punch Pack, the Small Bloom punch and the Builder Umbrella Punch. The tulips inside this card came from the Pleased as Punch Designer Series Paper, while the bloom on the card front is a stamped image I created with the Timeless Tulip Stamp set. The Punch and Stamp set can come as a bundle at a 10% discount or can be purchased individually. The bundle is currently in low inventory.

The sentiment “Kindness Changes Everything” comes from the Abstract Impression stamp set. I used one of the coordinating dies from the Springtime Impressions die set, inside the card. Both of these sets are going into retirement in June, both sets are currently marked down pretty significantly, so if you like what you see, hop on over to my online store to learn more about these sets.

The Designer Series Paper used in this card, come from the Best Dressed 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper Pack that is apart of the Best Dressed Suite. It is currently still available, but is while supplies last. It too will be retiring in June.

Thanks again for stopping by and spending a bit of your time with me. I hope you enjoyed learning about how this card came together. Hopefully you were even inspired just a bit. Below are pictured links to all the items used for this card, click the link of the item to be taken to my online store where you can learn more about each item. I will return soon with something new. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy and without doubt, keep on crafting, exploring and creating.
