Making Ephemera Butterflies

On a brighter happier note, I think we should talk about and play with Butterflies. What I am showing you is not an original idea, I’ve picked it up from other journalers on You Tube, for example Nina Ribena is someone I love to follow in the UK.
These little guys are all about having some fun with Pigment Sprinkles, a spray bottle full of water, watercolor paper, butterfly duet punch (for now this punch is a free Sale-A-Bration item with a $50 Purchase) and Butterfly Gala stamp set.
Spray the water color paper with a good bit of water, sprinkle a small amount of pigment sprinkles to see how they will react and get a feel for what will happen. Use whatever colors you like, one of the examples shown uses Melon Mambo, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green. The other example uses Mango Melody, Bermuda Bay and Granny Apple Green. The trick is to use colors beside each other on the color wheel, that will prevent creating mud. Create your watercolor masterpiece as you see fit. Allow it to dry thoroughly, otherwise when the butterflies are stamped on the paper, the stamped image will bleed. Once the paper is completely dry, no coolness to the touch, stamp your butterflies with the Stazon Black Ink. Allow that to dry for a minute or two, then punch out the butterflies as you would like. In the photos above, I used 20 gauge jewelry wire and round nose pliers to create the antennae, then hot glued them to the back of the butterflies. Another step that can be taken to finish off your butterflies is to use gilding paste to add color to the back. I used Viva Inka Gold in turquoise, cobalt blue and teal. These are tough to find in stores, but quite easy on Amazon.
Now that you know the basics of creating these butterfly ephemera, sky is the limit. Go create, have fun.
