With this post I bring you a card created for the Color Challenge #tgifc228 at TGIF Challenges. This is a beautiful, rich combination of colors Basic Black, Merry Merlot and Very Vanilla.
I chose to use a stamp set out of the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog that I have been dying to use, the Country Home Stamp set. I chose this set mostly because the creamy Very Vanilla color and the deep red of Merry Merlot strike me as country, mix them with black they do become a bit more of a modern feel, but I let the Vanilla and Merlot whisk me off to the Country. The flowers in the urn that have all the “holes” on the flower – I discovered they are called Lotus Pod stems, all the artificial version I have seen are a brown or deep dark red color, Merry Merlot fit that bill, or wasn’t to much of a stretch. Living in the South, I see cotton every where, it also conjures the feelings of being out in the country. There you go, every art piece has a meaning to the artist and there is mine.
For this card I chose to use a Basic Black card base cut to 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ scored to 4-1/4″ to create the basic side folding card. From there I diecut a piece of Merry Merlot to size using the Stitched rectangle dies as a mat. On a piece of Very Vanilla, I stamped the metal urn in Memento Ink and the flower arrangement in Coffee Archival ink so I could color with markers and not smear the ink. The metal urn is colored with Stampin’ Blends Basic Black Combo pack and Smokey Slate Combo pack. I used a white gel pen for additional accent. The leaves in the floral arrangement are colored with Stampin’ Blends Old Olive combo pack. The berries and Lotus Pod Stems are colored with Merry Merlot Stampin’ Write marker. On the front of the urn, with Silvery Shimmer Delicata Pigment ink, I stamped the oval shape and the word “enjoy”, just to add more interest to the urn and to step up its country flare. Once the image was how I wanted, I die cut it with the Stitched Rectangle dies. I love the stitching and I think the stitching lends itself to a country look. The sentiment “Happy Harvest Blessings” is stamped in Memento Black on very vanilla and die cut with a die in my stash. A Merry Merlot Gingham strip of 6″ x 6″ Neutral Designer Series Paper is attached along the bottom, to further drive home a country feeling. The diecut image and sentiment are attached to the mat with dimensionals, the mat is adhered with liquid glue.
Inside the card could not be ignored, so I carried a thin strip of the Gingham DSP inside, stamped the floral image and water washed the image with Merry Merlot.

Hey there! I’m glad you liked this card, I do love this set. Very good point, it would be great for masculine cards as well. I do a lot of geneology work and have seen many a picture of my ancestors with a Milk can somewhere in the photo. I’m a city girl from Louisville Kentucky transplanted in Birmingham Alabama, country is just part of vibe Kentuckians give off. Thanks for telling me what the “urn” đŸ˜‰ was called. I knew it wasn’t urn but the only other word my brain could come up with was jug…I knew that wasn’t it either so I went with a word, that seemed to fit!? I will definitely be remembering Milk Cans from here on out. Thanks so much.
I really like your card. I plan to use this set to make some cards as I think they will work for a masculine card, too. This old farm gal did have to laugh though. It is a milk can not an urn. Milk cans are antiques just as I am.
