This post features a card created for a sketch challenge at CAS(e) this sketch! CTS #338. This is a retro challenge, originally numbered challenge CTS #58.
The sketch implies a Christmas/Winter theme, with temps in the south reaching 100 or higher daily right now, I am more than happy to think about chillier days. However, I am just not ready to take on Christmas thoughts just yet. My mind is wrapped around a gorgeous set from Stampin’ Up! released in their 2019 Holiday Catalog. As I said it is a gorgeous stamp set with a cause. With every purchase of this set, $3 of the cost goes toward a Mental Health Organization in your part of the world, US, Europe and the South Pacific. I just adore this set and have done a ton of things with it, it is simply my go to set for the moment. It combines so nicely with so many other stamp sets, for this creation I teamed it with Rooted in Nature.
To start, the card base is Soft Suede cardstock, cut to 4-1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″ to create a top folding card. On watercolor paper I stamped the deer in Soft Suede, masked off the deer and did a wash of Crushed Curry for a background. I allowed that to dry for a bit then I stamped the sentiment ” You are Wonderful” from Rooted in Nature in Early Espresso. Since I was stamping on Watercolor paper, which is tough to stamp on due to the texture, I did all the stamping with the Stamparatus. The Stamparatus allows me to re-stamp an image several times, as needed, to get a crisp image. Under the deer I used an Old Olive Watercolor pencil to add shading and to ground her just a bit. I also used Early Espresso, and Cajun Craze watercolor pencils to shade her in as well. Once everything had time to dry, I attached the focal panel to a mat of Champagne Foil, then attached the unit to the card base.
Inside the card, I attached a piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the leaf image from Rooted in Nature with Old Olive.
This is a pretty simple card, but I do love how it turned out. The deer image is tied with the fox image of this Nature’s Beauty set as my favorite images in the set. My favorite part of this card is the Crushed Curry wash, I just love the way it turned out, to me it looks very realistic. I am just super happy with this card.
