Today I have for you a card created for the Global Design Project Color Challenge #GDP229. The Stampin’ Up! colors selected for this challenge are Crushed Curry, Garden Green and Night of Navy. This has got to be my all time favorite color combination, since I was a kid, I cannot tell you how excited I was to see this combo.
With this combination being a deep rooted favorite of mine, I had to have a think about what I wanted to use. The Navy conjured the image of the Black and Blue butterflies we have in Alabama, I assume at least throughout the south. I think they are called Swallowtail Butterflies, but not positive about that.
Once that image popped into my head, the green and yellow were flowers, leaves and a beautiful sunny day! I decided to go with the Positive Thoughts Stamp set from the January – June 2020 Mini Catalog. This set also has a coordination die set that recently was released, put the two together with a little bit of Whisper White and Linen thread, you got yourself one gorgeous card….in my opinion of course.
I’m not sure what to call the greenery – a spray? Fern Frond? A Branch? Not quite sure where to take that, but whatever it is, it is stamped in Garden Green. The daisy is stamped in Crushed Curry then I used a sponge dauber to put Garden Green as the flower center, then gave it a bit of texture with the Garden Green Stampin’ Write Marker. The creative spark butterfly of choice is stamped in black then colored in with the Night of Navy Water color pencil. I spread it around with an aqua painter then darkened in the center with the pencil while the area was still wet to give it a bit of depth. Then I cut all the images out with their coordinating dies, Nature’s Thoughts Dies.
Included in this die set is the rectangular panel all the elements are attached to, my favorite part of this panel is the piercing detail along the edges. To jazz up the panel and to ground the elements, using a blending brush, I blended Crushed Curry to create a sunlit background. Linen Thread is wrapped around the bottom of the panel, then the sentiment “a little note” stamped is Night of Navy is cut with a die cut from my stash and attached with dimensionals over the linen thread. The finished panel is attached to the card base using dimensionals.
The inside is just as important as the outside, so I carried over the Butterfly and Daisy stamped and shaded in the same fashion.
