Our Design Team Member Sue has come up with a very Fall/Autumn feeling color scheme – that I LOVE! School starts in our corner of the world in 2 weeks – so we are feeling are the warm fuzzies of school supplies and all things back to school.

On the topic of Back to School – my heart is a bit sore – excited and proud….but hurting. My son heads off to his Freshman Year of COLLEGE (When did that happen? Am I old enough for that? (yes, but beside the point) He will be 6-1/2 hours away at UVA at Wise pursuing his first love of Basketball at the collegiate level combined with his future plans of Finance. My daughter is rebuilding her life after shoulder surgery to both sides. Now she begins the HARDWORK as a competitive swimmer, to get to where she was a year ago. No easy task – but there is determination in her words and actions that tell me, we don’t want to miss this ride! She will also be pursuing her Sophomore in High school goals and ambitions.

Enough of that, lets get on to the card I created with this color scheme. Lately, I find myself sorely lacking in Birthday Cards – so that is at the top of the list for creating lately. This color scheme brought to mind a stamp set Earthen Textures – Think pottery with large whispy sprigs of branches, Cattails, fern fronds, etc. I adore this set – it will remain in my wheelhouse until it is removed from the catalog! The colors Sue selected are perfect for natural pottery colors. The tall urn combines the tall and short urn of the stamp set for interest and texture, the large urn is stamped in Cajun Craze while the small urn inset is stamped in Pecan Pie. The small urn is simply the small urn in the set, stamped here in Wild Wheat. Wild Wheat is not a color high on my list, too Yellow for me – but Cajun Craze always gets my attention and Pecan Pie is definitely a fantastic mid-tone brown. “Lovin’ it!” Otherwise everything came together fairly easily. I used the paper trimmer to cut a piece of cardstock to 3-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ then scored along all 4 edges 1/4″ in. The branches are stamped on the cardstock, while the urns were cut with their coordinating die from the Earthen Texture Dies and attached to the panel, over the stamped branches – the smallest urn is elevated with dimensionals. I wanted to soften the hard lines of the stamping so I die cut a vellum fern leaf from the die set. The Birthday greeting comes from the Charming Sentiments set is stamped in Cajun Craze, then die cut with the coordinating Sentiment Silhouettes Dies. Inside the card, again I stamped the large urn in a stamped off Cajun Craze and the small urn in a stamped off Wild Wheat
