Hello and welcome to our CAS Colours & Sketches August sketch challenge. Sue, our August hostess, has created this very versatile sketch. I know you can have some fun with this one and our design team would love to see what card creations come to mind. Please consider posting your card to the challenge gallery at CAS Colours & Sketches.

I knew what stamp set I wanted to use, I had the design in my head, but I just couldn’t decide on a color direction. So in true fashion when I can’t decide, I just make each one and try to make a final call. Well I couldn’t make a final call because I loved the color combinations of them all – but I begrudgingly decided to highlight the Pretty Peacock Urn and background.

The sketch is so versatile and I always find myself having to create birthday cards on the fly for the last half of the year. Now I have several at hand and can relax a smidge – I think all the color ways lend them gender neutral. I love this Earthen Texture Suite, I adore clay pottery looks and textures – so I couldn’t resist. They coordinating dies offer great filler sprigs. The Happy Birthday sentiment comes from the Pansy Patch Stamp set and is die cut with the label die from the Cheerful Daisies Die set. The Designer Series Papers also provide the look of texture. The Colors I chose are Boho Blue, Pebbled Path and Pretty Peacock. To create the textured urns, I first stamped the larger urn, then I stamped the small pot, die cut each one and attached the small pot to the front of the large urn to give it the look of texture. Then I added a tiny strip of ribbon around the top and bottom of the small pot for additional texture and to soften the transition lines. The filler sprigs are from the Earthen Texture Coordinating dies. The Copper Clay sprig is die cut from some of the DSP, the Pretty Peacock Fern Frond is cut from Vellum that I covered with Pretty Peacock ink and a blending brush.
