This post brings you a card inspired by the color challenge #GDP213 posted at Global Design Project using the colors Old Olive, Lovely Lipstick and Smoky Slate from the Stampin’ Up! Color Wheel.

I love how this card came together for me, I was stumped a bit by the colors and I’m going to peg the blame on Lovely Lipstick – Smoky Slate and Old Olive, I can handle all day everyday for 365! Love those colors, Lovely Lipstick is a nice shade of red it just isn’t one of my go to’s. I have been dying to use the Holly image in the Christmas Gleaming stamp set, so here was the perfect opportunity.

The background is created with the holly image and 2nd generation stamping on Whisper White Card. I created a homemade ink pad with baby wipes, adding a few strategically located drops of Old Olive and Lovely Lipstick from the refill bottles and wha-la! After stamping, I lightly colored in the leaves with the Old Olive Water color pencil to give a bit more oomph to the background. Red is such a powerful color, I didn’t color in the berries to keep them as low key as possible. I wanted the focal point to be the fussy cut Holly, not the background. The fussy cut Holly is first generation stamping, using the make-shift inky pad. These two were colored in using the Water Color pencils, Stampin’ Blends and the Stampin’ Write markers. The dried images were then fussy cut, then given a bit of sparkle with Wink of Stella. The sentiment “Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly” from the Christmas Gleaming set is stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Whisper White. Using the die from the Christmastime is Here suite called Roses dies, I cut the sentiment with the smaller frame. Using the larger frame die from the same set, I cut the mat for the sentiment in Smoky Slate.

The card base is a half sheet of Old Olive Cardstock cut 4-1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″ to create a top folding card. The handmade Whisper White Holly background is adhered to a Smoky Slate mat with liquid glue then both are attached to the card front with liquid glue. The Whisper White sentiment is attached to the Smoky Slate mat with liquid glue. The fussy cut Holly is attached with liquid glue under the berries and dimensionals under the leaves. The unit is attached to the card front with dimensionals, just to had height, drama, interest….. I wanted to add a bit more sparkle and interest so I embellished the card front a bit more with the Gold Glitter Enamel Dots from the Christmastime is Here Suite.

Inside the card is lined with a piece of Whisper White that had also been stamped with the Holly and gently kissed by the Wink of Stella as well. Must have sparkle everywhere!

I really do love how this card came together! If you would like to learn more about this challenge, see the design team behind this challenge and so many others, or to see what other creative designers created with this color inspiration, hop on over to Global Design Project.
