This is a super fun and crafty way to use up scraps of paper. Instead of throwing them away…..make tiny paper fans out of each piece, attach them to a 1″ paper circle with hot glue. Wala you could have yourself a flower or lots of tiny paper fans!
Create your own flower variety. They are great for scrap booking, card making, journaling….the sky (and your imagination) is the limit. I like to ink the edges giving them a bit of a distressed/grungy look, it doesn’t have to be brown ink, could be green, blue, pink whatever color you want to pull out. The edges don’t have to be inked. Your creation, your way. The centers can be whatever you choose as well. All of these paper flowers are made with Stampin’ Up Designer Series Papers (most retired) and Stampin’ up embellishments. One center that is pictured below is actually a butterfly cut from watercolor paper that was sprinkled with our powder pigments. Have fun with it.
The bottom row of “petals” are pieces of paper that are about 3-4″ long and 1-1/2″ wide. For a 1″ paper circle you will need 4 strips, use larger pieces for a larger flower. Fold each strip of paper into a tiny fan. Once you have finished folding a strip, pinch one end and fan out the top creating the fan shape. With your fingers press out the fold to flatten the fan. If you would like, ink the edges (top and sides) of each fan. Glue each fan shape down with a drop of hot glue – really the best method, liquid glue takes a while to dry. For the second layer the strips of paper for my flowers are roughly 2″ – 3″ long and about 1″ wide. Typically only 3 strips are needed for the top layer. Fold each strip into a fan like the you did for the bottom layer, spread it out to look like a fan, then push out the folds to flatten the fan a bit. If you would like, ink the top and side edges of each strip. Glue the bottom end (pinched end) of each strip with a dot of hot glue. The centers can be whatever you want….brads, flat backed gems/pearls, paper embellishments, bottle caps, cotton balls, cameos, any kind of small ephemera, if you can dream it, it can probably be achieved. whatever the center choice is, it simply needs to large enough to cover the raw paper edges and glue in the center, I find anything in the 1/4″ (6-8mm) neighborhood is perfect for this size flower.
Like any recipe, once you get the hang of it, make whatever changes or additions you would like.
How do you use one of these glorious beauties? Put them in a journal, scrapbook or even a card. Granted the card most likely can’t be mailed, but it can be hand delivered. Here is a quick thought for a card.
