For this post, I have created a card for the CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #338.

I am trying to streamline my blogging practices and particularly how I participate in card challenges. It gets really mind blowing to create a new path for every single challenge I participate in. I have decided that I will now focus on a single stamp set, bundle or suite per week. So that means I come up with 10 different designs for one stamp set in a week. In my mind far less daunting than plowing an entirely new path for each card. Now I’m plowing one path with a few cul-de-sacs! Waiting to see how that plan goes – this is only card 2 of potentially 10 or more! My birthday is on Wednesday, so I maybe tied up with that at various points of the day. My daughter, had a swim meet this weekend (year round swimmers typically have meets that span over 2 or 3 consecutive days and usually start on Friday or Saturday through to Sunday), then my son had a basketball game last night, so I find myself behind the 8-ball already with this new plan! Gotta start somewhere.

At any rate, off we go with how this card came to be. I love the So Many Starts bundle which includes a photopolymer stamp set and a set of Stitched Star dies. I was so excited to get this Stitched star dies mostly, and I couldn’t wait to use them. Well this is the week…..

For this card, I started by creating my watercolor focal panel. I washed the bottom portion of the watercolor paper with watered down Night of Navy, trying to create a night time sky. I then stamped various star images with the Golden Glitz Deliciata Metallic Pigment ink pad. I needed one star to be the larger than the rest to mimic the oval shape on the sketch. I then stamped with the same ink a line of various sized stars off to one side and then a line of tiny background stars off to the other side. I was going for somewhat of a shooting star effect. The sentiment “Peace” is stamped on the watercolor paper with the Golden Glitz metallic pigment ink used on the stars. I cut the watercolor panel to 4″ x 5-1/8″. The metallic ink on the normal Whisper White Cardstock really sparkles and looks very metallic, I have found that on Watercolor paper, as the ink dries and soaks into the paper, it looses its luster a bit. In hind sight, I probably should have used the Stamparatus so I could re-stamp until I achieved the affect I was after. That said, I do still like how it turned out, its just not as sparkly!

While waiting for the panel to dry completely, I began pulling everything else together. For the card base I went with a half sheet of Night of Navy card stock cut to 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″ to create a standard side folding card. Moving on to the diecutting, I cut a large star out of Gold Glimmer Cardstock to fit inside the already stamped large star, and attached it with dimensionals. I am using the stamped stars as a halo to the die cut stars. Followed by various smaller stars to fit in the other smaller stamped stars that are attached with liquid adhesive. I really like how the halo effect worked out, it offers dimension, shadow or the halo effect. I left the tiny wash of stars alone. Once everything was dry, I matted the water color panel with more Gold Glimmer Cardstock. I then attached some craft foam to the back of the panel to give it some elevation off the card and then attached all of that to the card with Tear-n-Tape.

Not to forget the inside, I stamped the multiple tiny star image along the bottom a couple of times with the Golden Glitz Metallic Delicata ink, then with liquid adhesive attached a few more stars cut from the Gold Glimmer Cardstock.
