I’ve been gone for a bit, I traveled to Virginia with my dad to visit with my sister and her family for a few days. My dad lives in Florida, so you can imagine we don’t get to see them very often. It was a beautiful trip, the mountains acting as a great backdrop to leaves just beginning to change.

For the month of November I am so excited and honored to be a guest designer for CAS Colours & Sketches. The challenge this week is a sketch challenge #347

I have winter on the mind these days, being in the south I am glad to wave goodbye to the hot temperatures and welcome in the cooler temps. However, mother nature is getting right into her winter game with highs in the low 30’s tomorrow (Tuesday), and then highs in the upper Thursdays on Wednesdays. Yes, I did say the south, Central Alabama – it can get pretty cold here. It just doesn’t last nearly as long as the northern half of the country gets to deal with. At any rate, I am ready for a little bit of snow

To begin the wintery feel, lets start with a card base created with Night of Navy Cardstock cut to 11″ x 4-1/4″ scored at 5-1/2″, creating a top fold card.

On a piece of Whisper White card stock I sponged the sky first with a layer of Seaside Spray, then a bit of Purple posy (unfortunately, no longer with us) and finished with Night of Navy. The snow covered hills were created with a mask ripped from paper and sponged with Seaside Spray, being sure to add depth in the valleys where the trees are placed. The spruce tree image is from Rooted in Nature and is stamped in Garden Green. The final ooo la la, is the SPARKLE! Compliments of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. By running the glue tip over the hill tops, adding dots of glue to represent falling snow and accents of collecting glistening snow on the trees, then covering the glue with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. With a white paint pen, I added smaller snowflakes for variety.

The Liner gets a touch of attention as well by carrying the tree images and the sponged snow bank inside in the lower left corner.

To finish off the front of the card, I used the dotted texture images found in the Christmas Rose stamp set from the Christmastime is here Suite. The image is stamped very haphazardly over the entire front with Versamark ink, to represent snow. The whit heat embosses sentiment “Peace & Happiness” is from the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set.

Hope you enjoyed learning how this card came together. If you would like to learn more about this challenge, see the design team creating these challenges or to see what other designers came up with for this challenge and many others, head on over to CAS Colours & Sketches.
