Card Challenges

Rooted in Nature

Hello everyone, so glad you stop by!

Today I have for you another card challenge from Paper Craft Crew, challenge PCC336, a sketch challenge. I love Sketch challenges because, unless otherwise noted, you have the freedom to create your own theme. The only parameters are to organize it to represent your interpretation of the Sketch.

I’ve been in a very woodsy, natural, subtle frame of mind lately. So, for this card I went with Rooted in Nature Stamp Set and the Natures Roots Framelit Dies. This is a beautiful set, I am so glad it is carrying over into the new catalog that will be released 4 June. It is a very worthy replacement for the Lovely as a Tree, which is retiring and won’t be available after the release of the new catalog 4 June. Check out the Retiring List and be sure to snap up those sets that may be on your wish list before they are gone.

For this card very much Rooted in Nature, the card base is Old Olive. I am apparently a neutral kind of gal because they always seem to pop up in every project particularly Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Night of Navy! Can’t seem to escape them. For the layers I went with one of the prints from the Wood Texture 6″x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP), attached that to a piece of So Saffron Card Stock. To soften the edges I ran a piece of Burlap Ribbon across the width of the card, right over the seam, which also offered some texture. Using my Stamparatus, on Whisper White card stock I stamped the tree from Rooted in Nature in Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Soft Suede, to add some subtle shading and interest. The Stamparatus helped me to be sure the tree turned out perfectly, since it is the focal point. I also stamped the sentiment using the Stamparatus. For additional texture, I stamped the sentiment on Watercolor Paper in Old Olive. Using the Big Shot I used a coordinating die from Nature’s Roots to cut out the tree and I used a stitched oval die for the sentiment. I glued the tree to the oval with the sentiment, then gave them more of a presence by adhering them to the finished card with dimensionals. The sequins come from the Basic Adhesive Backed Sequins collection.
