Oh how I love the Toile Tidings Suite – first there is this gorgeous cardinal and then they had to go and rope me in with the Toile patterned paper. Toile is another weak spot….Love it! This week I am focusing on this Bundle/Suite for my creating inspirations. This card was created for a sketch challenge at Sunday Stamps #SSC214 using the sketch pictured below.

I used the baby wipe stamping technique for the branches so I could get the blended, naturally occuring look of the 3 inks I chose to use for the branches. I mixed together several drops of Real Red, Soft Suede and Old Olive re-inkers, let them spread and bleed as they would and then stamped away. Took several tries to get the branches the way I wanted them, but finally got pretty close.

The card base is created from a half sheet of Very Vanilla Thick cardstock cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ for a top folding card. Since the Cardinal was going to be a vibrant red and I knew I was going to make the berries red as well I chose to go with a Garden Green mats and the Garden Green Toile (foliage) pattern from the Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper.

On a piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock cut to size with one of the Stitched Rectangle Dies, I stamped the Cardinal on a berry covered branch image from the Christmas Countdown Cling Stamp Set with the Baby wipe pad I created above. On a scrap piece of Very Vanilla I stamped the larger branch image from the Toile Christmas Cling Stamp set also using the homemade baby wipe pad. To finish off the image, I did a little bit of water coloring just to give it the punch it needed to be the focal image and to carry its own weight next to the cardinal. The Cardinal is stamped several times on watercolor paper using the Stamparatus stamp positioning tool and Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then I rendered this gorgeous bird with a Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker, Real Red Water color pencil and a blender pen pulled everything together. The coordinating Christmas Cardinal dies were used to cut out the Cardinal and larger branch.

Once all the parts and piece were colored and cut, it was time to get it all together. The larger Garden Green cardstock and Garden Green Toile patterned paper were united with tear-n-tape and then the pair were adhered to the front of the card base with tear-n-tape as well. The smaller Garden Green mat and the Very Vanilla mat were also united with Tear-n-tape. I attached a smaller piece of craft foam to the back of this dynamic duo for some elevation and drama. I then arranged the branch and cardinal as I liked and attached them both to the front with dimensionals – cut to size as needed. The sentiment “Christmas Wishes” also comes from the Toile Christmas stamp set, the sentiment is heat embossed in black and die cut with the coordinating dies.

As always, I don’t leave the inside to fend for its self. I lined the bottom of the card with a sliver of Garden Green cardstock leftover from earlier trimming and again used the homemade ink pad to stamp the smaller cardinal on a branch in the lower corner.
