For this post I come to you with a card that is my answer to 3 different challenges. The Paper Players Challenge #PP458 is a color challenge using Merry Merlot, Pretty Peacock, Cajun Craze and any Neutral, my chosen neutral is Very Vanilla. The Inspire.Create Stamping Challenge #051 is a With Sympathy theme and the Global Design Project challenge #GDP206 is a Sketch. Put the 3 together and they can create 1 card.

Nobody enjoys creating Sympathy cards, however, the circle of life deems them necessary at times. Recently, in my corner of the world, we have lost several family and friends, making it necessary to create more of these cards than I would like. I don’t like creating these cards but the first half of this year has made me realize I should probably have a few on hand. These challenges helped me plan and create several of the same card to keep on hand.

The color challenge was already in my wheel house, lately those have been my go to colors. Maybe because temperatures of 100 or more, really put one in the mood for Fall and cooler temps now! The Global Design Sketch just helped to pull everything together. Have I mentioned this is my birthday weekend? How was that for a segue, talk about the circle of life! We won’t discuss age….though it is quite a round number! So I will be taking off the weekend to be with my family and friends. Thus another reason to combine challenges.

For this card I chose to go with a half sheet of Merry Merlot as the base, cut to 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″ for a standard top folding card. I cut a mat from Cajun Craze and Very Vanilla with the Stitched Rectangle dies. One of the circle Stitched Shape dies is the base of the focal leaf images from Rooted in Nature, all 3 leaf images from the stamp set are used and are stamped in Merry Merlot, Cajun Craze and Pretty Peacock, then die cut with their coordinating die from the Nature’s Root Die set. The Very Vanilla mat panel is embossed several times, using the coordinating matching leaf embossing dies in the coordinating Nature’s Root Die set.

Attached to the Card front with liquid adhesive, is the 2 die cut mats and a strip of Come to Gather Designer Series Paper. This pattern drives home even further the use of the 3 main colors in the color challenge.

I arranged an assortment of the die cut leaves on the stitched circle, attached my sentiment under the leaves and attached all elements to the circle with liquid glue. The sentiment “With Sympathy” is from the Flourishing Phrases Stamp set. The sentiment is heat embossed on Very Vanilla Cardstock with Copper Embossing powder. I fish tailed the end just for a bit more interest. I attached the focal image to the card base with dimensionals. To jazz up the card front a bit more I added a copper Leaf trinket and few copper sequins from a retired Stampin’ Up! sequin assortment.

Inside cannot be forgotten….I attached a Very Vanilla liner and embellished it with a couple more leaves.
