CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #357

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my little happy spot. Take a look around and hope you enjoy.

We would love to see what card creation you can bring to life. Please consider, taking a minute to post your card creation in our challenge gallery at CAS Colours & Sketches.

So here is my 3rd creation as a Design Team Member at CAS Colours & Sketches, I have loved every second. I love being able to check in on what is being created for each challenge. So many fantastically creative designers out there. The Challenge this week is Sketch Challenge #357, here is what I created for this challenge, can’t wait to see what your create!

I had an inner struggle with how this card should actually present itself. My very first idea was the card sliding across your screen now, but I also had a great idea for sticking with the heart prompts. In the end my heart won and I went with design. The other card I created for this challenge using the heart prompt will pop up on my blog on Valentines Day, so stay tuned, if you are so inclined. I’m not sure how these colors came to me either, I am not much of a Calypso Coral (orange) or Petal Pink fan. When I was pulling color swatches these two colors landed on top of one another and it just struck me! I went with it and added some Old Olive for a little extra kick. I do LOVE how this card turned out. In my head, the symbolism that exists with the Geisha and the Cherry Blossoms in the Japanese Culture just make these two stamp sets go hand in hand…they feed off of each other. Somehow my brain also connected the Nobel Peacock stamp set from the Annual Catalog with the Japanese theme, I went with the sentiment “You are Incredible” from that set for this card. In Japan the Peacock symbolizes overall the Integrity and Beauty that we can achieve when we show our true colors. A great segue to the Geisha, it is a misconception that the Geisha women are prostitutes. They are women that have studied from a young age music, dance, art, poetry and proper social skills. The Cherry Blossom is a cultural icon that is cherished in Japan representing Human existence. The blossom is a reminder of how brilliant but short life can be.

After all that, the card is super easy to pull together! The Cherry Blossom branch and single blossom inside the card are stamped in Smoky Slate and rendered with the Petal Pink, Calypso Coral and Old Olive Stampin Blends combo packs, then outlined with the thinnest Micron Pen. The Geisha is also rendered with Petal Pink and Calypso Coral. A piece of Petal Pink cardstock is sent through the embossing machine with the Layered Leaves embossing folder. The Geisha is cut with a Stitched Rectangle die while the Calypso Coral mat is cut with the Stitched so Sweetly dies. The sentiment is heat embossed in a glittery gold embossing powder from my stash and backed with a slightly larger piece of vellum to dial back the color behind the sentiment so it could stand on its own a bit better.

Thanks again for stopping by and spending a bit of your time with me. I hope you enjoyed learning about how this card came together. Hopefully you were even inspired just a bit.
