This post will venture from the norm of cards to the fun of tag making. Not terribly different from cards but it is a new frame of thought that can be a bit more playful and fun. This tag was inspired by the tag challenge #tgifc235 at TGIF Challenges.

This challenge was a lot of fun, in that it veered off course a bit. A little change of pace is always exciting and exhilarating!! I had so much fun playing with a little strip of cardstock, little pieces of paper shapes, ink, texture paste, ribbon. So much fun! This little tag is created using a 2″ x 5″ strip of Very Vanilla card stock topped with the Scalloped Tag Topper, the bottom fishtail uses the Banner Triple Punch. First the tag is distressed around all the edges with Delicata Metallic ink Celestial Copper. Then the edges are defined a bit more with Copper Heat embossing.

I begin by stamping the tree image from the retired stamp set The Sheltering Tree in Delicata Metallic Ink in Celestial Copper, including the leaf canopy. On the other side I used some texture paste tinted with a drop of Old Olive Ink Refill, using a stencil from the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks to apply some texture, pattern and color.

Leaving the texture paste to dry, I rummaged through some leaves I had prepared long ago knowing that the Gather Together Stamp set would become a huge favorite. These leaves are cut from watercolor paper washed with Cajun Craze, Old Olive, Crushed Curry and Merry Merlot, the leaves were cut with the coordinating die set Gathered Leaves Dies. The center Copper foil leaf comes from the Seasonal Layers Dies which coordinates with the Colorful Seasons Stamp set.

The Corrugated Embossing Folder is another Fav of mine, so a select group of colors are pre-embossed due to frequent use, Cajun Craze is definitely in this group. I trimmed it with the Triple Banner punch for a matching fish tail end and trimmed the piece down to about 2″. On a scrap piece of vellum I stamped the sentiment “Wishing you Well” from the Gather Together Stamp set using Versamark ink, then heat embossed with copper embossing powder.

Everything comes together once the texture paste is dry, which doesn’t take much time. The Corrugated Cajun Craze piece is applied with liquid glue to the bottom of the tag to align with the fishtail in the tag itself. The leaves are arranged and also attached to the tag with liquid glue. The vellum sentiment strip is attached with a dot of glue on one side. For additional texture, Linen Thread is tied around the bottom of the tag, and held in place with a rolled up glue dot.

The final flourish is a ribbon at the top from the Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo Pack. Cajun Craze Twine is from the Ribbon Combo Pack in the Come To Gather Suite.

I loved putting this tag together, so much fun playing with all sorts of multi-media. If you would like to learn more about this challenge, the design team behind this challenge or to see what other creative designers created for this challenge and many others, hop on over to TGIF Challenges.
