Card Challenges

Happy Birthday to my honey.

Hey guys, welcome back, so glad you visit for a bit.

Today I have a very special card that I created for my husbands birthday, which was inspired by the Color Challenge at Paper Craft Crew Challenge #346. For this challenge, pick 3 of the 4 colors presented. I went with Pineapple Punch, Granny Apple Green and Blueberry Bushel. Though I was able to sneak in a teeny tiny pop of Poppy Parade.

This card turned out to be quite fun, I love the way it came together. The card base is a half sheet of Blueberry Bushel card stock cut to 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″ for a side folding card.

The framing mat layer is a cut to size piece of Granny Apple Green card stock. The decorative front panel is a cut to size piece of Whisper White Card stock. I pulled out the sponge daubers and the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks (stencils) and chose the polka dot mask to work with. I attached the paper to my work surface and then my stencil to the paper. Using Pineapple Punch, Granny Apple Green and Blueberry Bushel ink pads I swirled away, with yellow on one side, blue on the other end and green in the middle, blending them all together. Then I cut the finished panel to the size I needed.

Using the retired Happy Birthday die, I cut out 3 from Basic Black card stock. There is a die set in the annual catalog that provides a ton of flexability in sentiments, called Word Wishes. I used adhesive sheets on the back of the Basic Black to make it easy to adhere all three sentiments together. This gives it just enough lift to stand out a bit more. To be sure the sentiment didn’t go unnoticed, I covered it with a bit of Wink of Stella. I accomplished the feat of using 3 colors from the challenge, however, my die cut sentiment didn’t have the tittle (new word for the day – tittle is the dot over the “i”! Did you know that? Learned that fairly recently myself. At any rate, my sentiment did not come with a “tittle” over the “i”, so I created one with the epoxy droplet hearts, I colored it with the Dark Poppy Parade Blends marker – wa la a dot for my “i” and a tiny little shot of Poppy Parade.

I had to pat myself on the back for that one, it was a little above and beyond but it needed (in my opinion) a little pop of ….. more. I love the way it turned out, my kids loved it and more importantly my husband did too!

Thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed the creation for my husband. If you would like to learn more about this challenge, learn more about the design team behind these challenges or to see what other designers were able to create for this challenge and others, hop on over to Paper Craft Crew Challenges. It is now time for me to go, I will return soon with something new. My inner artist is dying to come out, so I’m feeling a far more artistic creation will be heading your way. Until then, keep crafting, exploring and creating, see you soon.
