Today I bring you a card created for the Theme challenge at Global Design Project #GDP231. The theme is Flutter and Fly.
For this card I had to bring out of the shadows my beloved Cardinal. The cardinal image and coordinating die are from the Toile Christmas Bundle included in the Toile Tidings Suite from the 2019 Holiday Catalog. The Butterfly is from the Butterfly Beauty Die set which coordinates with Beauty Abounds Stamp set in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog. Then combined those light and fluttery bodies with the cherry blossom branch image included in the Forever Blossoms Bundle from the Parisian Blossoms Suite in the 2020 January – June Mini Catalog.
The Cardinal was created months ago with a mass cardinal coloring binge for my Christmas cards, he is colored using Real Red Stampin Blends Combo and the Real Red Watercolor pencil. His beak is Pumpkin Pie Stampin Write marker. The Butterfly uses 3 separate die cuts from the Butterfly Beauty die cut set in Night of Navy, Balmy Blue and Black foil. I fussy cut this butterfly from the grouping then pieces the Balmy Blue pieces into the Night of Navy Butterfly and vice versa. The Cherry Blossoms are colored with Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends Marker Combo, Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends Marker Combo and the Old Olive Stampin’ Blends Marker Combo. Mossy Meadow Dark is a great shading marker for the Old Olive. The Daffodil Delight (2 generations) stamped background is from the Love What you Do stamp set. The embellishments come from the Iridescent Sequin Assortment and the Gingham Gala Adhesive sequins. The sentiment, “It’s a Good Day” and the Petal Pink Flower on the inside lower corner are from a retired Stampin’ Up! stamp set called Best Birds (a fantastic set featuring birds that resemble sparrows/finches with coordinating dies).

Wow!!! Your spring cardinal card is beautiful. So many will only use a cardinal on a Christmas card, but in my opinion, they are a non-seasonal bird. I live in North Carolina and I have cardinals on my back deck all year long. My mother’s favorite bird was the cardinal, so I always think of her when I see one, I lost my sweet Mother in 2002, so this is a special memory for me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful card.
