Card Challenges

Free as a Bird and the sketch challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches

Hey everyone, thanks so much for stopping by!

I have for you a card created for CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #329, a sketch challenge. I hope you enjoy this design.

I enjoyed creating this card, I love working with the various sketches (so so many) because they open your mind and help to think outside of what could be the norm. Its fun, its fresh and I just simply love to play!

This card starts with a Whisper White Thick standard right side folding card base. On a Whisper white card stock mat, I attached my 3 vertical stripes with liquid adhesive. The slivers are scrap pieces from other projects, which I just keep in a tall cup on my desk for future use, makes for a lovely, whispy decorative arrangement on the work surface. Two of the strips are from the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper (DSP), the center sliver is a Petal Pink Card stock scrap that was embossed with the Scripty 3D embossing folder.

I cut an oval from Whipser White card stock, using blending brushes, I washed the center of the oval with Petal Pink Ink, the top is washed with Pool Party ink. I find the blending brushes, for me, are significantly easier to use than the finger tip sponges. The overall end result is much smoother, where the sponges tend to be a bit more blotchy…for me. Though I will admit the sponges have their place and I do use them as well, mostly for inking up stamps when I want blended colors on one stamp, or a lighter layer of ink on the stamps. I also use the sponges on the Stampin’ Up! Distinktive line of stamps, as I can be quite heavy handed on the ink pads.

The birds on a branch image from the Free as a Bird stamp set was stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on scrap Whisper White card stock, then I colored the image with the Stampin’ Blends Marker Combo Packs of Crumb Cake, Petal Pink and Pool Party. Then I fussy cut the finished image and adhered the image to the oval with dimensionals that were cut down to fit where needed.

On a Whisper White strip of paper I stamped the “Hello” sentiment from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and adhered the fishtailed strip to the oval using dimensionals.

Thanks again for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed this project. Until then keep crafting, exploring and creating.
