Gather Together Freshly Made Sketches

Hey everyone, thanks so much for stopping by, good to see you.

This is a creation for Freshly Made Sketches. This particular sketch challenge is in celebration of their 400th sketch challenge and 8 years of challenging card designers.I think that is outstanding, that is a long time and quite the following – Congratulations!

Each week this month, if I understand correctly, they will head back into the vault and pull out an oldie but goody challenge. This challenge happens to be sketch challenge #1 and challenge #100. If you want to learn more about Freshly Made Sketches, head on over to their blog.

I was just looking at my card beside their sketch image and realized I apparently took their lead in my color scheme, it was absolutely a subconscious move, but apparently it resonated with me!

To start I created a card base from a half sheet of Cajun Craze cut to 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″, creating a top folding card. The base mat is cut from Gray granite and then will be topped with the Whisper White finished decorative panel, cut from Stitched Rectangle Dies.

I began by getting all the stamping out of the way first, which really wasn’t a lot for this card. I chose to let the new Designer Series Paper do the majority of the talking. On a scrap piece of Cajun Craze I stamped the pumpkin image from the Gather Together stamp set in Cajun Craze ink. On a scrap of Whisper White, I stamped the sentiment also from Gather Together “So glad to have you in my life.” in Gray Granite. Now to the die cutting, using the scalloped layering squares die I cut two squares from Pretty Peacock. Using the pumpkin die from the coordinating die set Gathered Leaves, I cut the stamped Cajun Craze pumpkin. Using a die from my stash I cut the fishtail sentiment.

Pulling everything together, I adhered a square of DSP to each scalloped square, then I cut a strip of coordinating DSP. Everything is adhered to the stitched rectangle Whisper White mat with liquid adhesive, the pumpkin is attached with a dimensional or two.

To finish of the the decorative panel, I added a few Pear Basic Jewels in the to corner, per the sketch. The decorative panel is raised from the card base with a piece of craft foam for elevation, interest. For the front of the card, I prefer the strength and stability the craft foam adds to the front. Dimensional are great for small pieces attached to the front that want/need elevation, but for a big panel, craft foam is the way to go, in my little corner of the world. The front panel is adhered to the foam with liquid adhesive and then attached to the card base with liquid adhesive.

I simply lined the inside with a sheet of Whisper White for writing space. Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed this card. If you would like to learn more about this challenge, the design team behind this successful blog or to see what other have created for this challenge, head on over to Freshly Made Sketches.

I must go for now, but I will be back with more, soon. Until then, keep crafting, exploring and creating.
