Card Challenges

Leave a Little Sparkle

Hey everyone thanks for taking a minute to stop by, glad you are here!

Today I have for you a card created for two different challanges. One challenge is a sketch challenge from Sunday Stamps #SSC206 and the other is a color challenge from Global Design Project #GDP193.

To start, I must explain that I received my haul of new Stampin’ Up! products just as I was starting to plan for whatever this creation was going to be. My daughter happened to be beside me as I unloaded and acquainted myself with all the new products. Then, there it was….the UNICORN! (to clarify my daughter is in elementary school – I would have severely harmed my reputation, in the eyes of my daughter, if I had not purchased the Unicorn stamp set). Just can’t let that happen! Leave a Little Sparkle is a very elegant and beautiful stamp set, not nearly as “cartoony” as most.

All that to say, my daughter helped me to create this card. She was hoping for a lot more pink and purple however. Once she came to terms with the boundaries of the color challenge, she planned away. The one thing I tried to give her the most of, was the customary sparkle that must accompany unicorns. She insisted that the mane of our unicorn be multicolored, as they all seem to be. I used the Stampin’ Blends combo’s Night of Navy, Pineapple Punch and Granny Apple Green. I started the mane with the darker of each color and faded into the lighter of each color. We also colored the flowers using Night of Navy and Pineapple Punch combo Stampin’ Blends. To add depth to our white unicorn I used the Light Smokey Slate Stampin’ Blend. The swirls behind our unicorn came from the new stamp set Stargazing, they are stamped are 2nd generation Night of Navy, Granny Apple Green and Pineapple Punch. Sparkle was the next key ingredient, there must be sparkle! We heat embossed the swirls and the horn with the new Shimmer White embossing powder. I am not sure the photos do this product justice! It is very sparkly, gorgeous. This powder would be great for holiday, wedding or very special cards that require a lot of shine.

Well to say my helper was still fairly disgruntle with the sparkle level, we took it up one more notch with Wink of Stella in the mane. That still wasn’t enough – several coats later – so I added the clear jewels around the card. That slightly calmed her glitter rage! All in all I did finally get two side way thumbs, which is closer than I expected to get to Thumbs up. For a little more texture and fun we embossed the Pineapple punch mat with the Swirls and Curls embossing folder and framed the unicorn with a strip of Night of Navy and Granny Apple Green. We attached the unicorn to the Pineapple Punch mat using dimensionals to further acknowledge the extreme elevated status the unicorn holds in our house and in the mythical realms.

Thanks again for stopping by, so glad you could make it! Hope you enjoyed our mystical trip down mythical alley. I shall return shortly with a new creation. Could be my own, could be through the eyes of a child. Never really know what your gonna get around here!
