This post is my answer to a card challenge put out by CAS(E) this Sketch CTS#341. I made a choice to stick with one Suite/Bundle throughout the week for all of the card challenges I enjoy doing and can fit into my schedule. This week I am trying to focus on the the Toile Tidings Suite found on page 7 of the Holiday Catalog. I am a born and bred Kentucky girl, Louisville Kentucky to be exact. If you are any kind of college sports fanatic I am sure The University of Louisville Basketball and Football team have come up into conversation – the University of Louisville Cardinals. As gorgeous as that red bird is, I bleed blue and will be a University of Kentucky Wildcat till the day I die. However, the Kentucky state bird is the Cardinal so I cannot deny it, despite the athletic rivalry. This gorgeous red bird is near and dear to my heart.

This card begins with a half sheet of Whisper White Thick Cardstock cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″ for a standard top folding card. The mat is a piece of Cherry Cobbler Cardstock cut to size then run through the embossing machine using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. The background is created with a cut to size piece of Gold Foil and a green plaid with gold pattern in the Wrapped in Plaid 6″ x 6″ Designer Series paper from the Wrapped in Plaid Suite.

The cardinal is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Water color paper using the Stamparatus. I prefer to use the Stamparatus with water color paper, because of the texture and density of the paper. With the Stamparatus I can be assured that if I need to stamp again, I can and it will be in the same place. I can stamp as many times as I need to get the crisp line I am looking for. I practiced rendering the cardinal in so many ways, this is the one I finally landed on, it had to look perfect! I used the Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker, the Real Red Water color pencil, the Blender pen and on occasion an aqua painter for the assist.

The sentiment “May your days be Merry & Bright” is from the same stamp set, stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed in Gold. The Cardinal and the sentiment are die cut with coordinating dies the Christmas Cardinal Dies.

To bring everything together the Cherry Cobbler mat is adhered to a piece of craft foam cut a bit smaller than the mat size with liquid glue. The plaid and Gold foil piece are glued together with liquid adhesive then adhered to the Cherry Cobbler mat with liquid glue. The die cut cardinal is adhered to the plaid mat with dimensionals, while the sentiment is attached to the cardinal with liquid adhesive.

As you all know, I can not ignore the inside of the card. This inside stamping came from another stamp set that I think coordinates quite nicely with the Toile Tidings Suite. The Christmas Countdown set is predominately border and background stamps, one image includes a smaller cardinal on a branch of berries. For this card I chose to go with one of the border images stamped with the Delicata Golden Glitz Pigment Ink Stamp pad. This ink is so gorgeous and glittery, it is truly a tough decision between stamping or gold heat embossing.
